There is always something about hometowns that keeps pulling people back to their roots. An urge, like an itch that needed scratching.  Baguio City may not be as loud and prosperous as Manila but it is home. Benj in a way felt that itch so after a few years working and chasing dreams in Manila and other places, its time to bring home the loot and say some grace for all its worth.

Agi Discography

We welcome a breath of fresh Benguet air. Here are five young artists who call themselves Agi, a name which highlights their cultural roots and defines their character as a group. Agi is a common term used by the Ibaloi and Kankana-ey people to fondly call a brother, sister, cousin, a kin or a close friend.

At the onset, they were a duo from Kabayan, Benguet - Rene Neil S. Apilis, 19, (lead guitar and vocals) and Rawlinson P. Penchog, 20, (rhythm guitar and lead vocals). In February this year, the duo expanded to include another artist from Kabayan, Bruce K. Guzman, 21, (bass and vocals) and Michael S. Rodriguez, 22, (bongos/percussions). After a month, they were able to make several compositions (even if they don’t have their own instruments) and joined the acoustic idol hunt of 96.7 K-Lite FM. Fortunately; they seized the second place with their entry song “Malasmas”. Later, after the contest, they recruited Mariano V. Llamido Jr., 24, (flute) to give a more ethnic distinction of their group. The result was perfect music chemistry. The light and soothing blend of their acoustic sound and the ethnic touch of the flute classified their music under the genre of experimental ethnic acoustic.

Trivia

On March 18, 1990, Pres. Emilio Aguinaldo established his headquarters at Lubuagan, Kalinga while trying to elude his American pursuers. He stayed there for 35 days until he was forced to flee when the Americans were sighted in nearby towns.
