Cry the beloved country

The rain poured endlessly with the pain of it all. The denizens of the skies crying in silent unison as the country bashed its head against the rocky walls of misery and oblivion. The soft ticking of the clock on St. Peter’s gate becoming grossly noisy heard on land. The wind howled, the oceans crashed, the skies opened in disbelief over the slow destruction of this once tiny land that could have been paradise lost. Struck with the blunt blade of indifference and greed and infamy, it bleeds on all sides. LUZON was lying on her stomach, her head bashed in and incorrigible. VISAYAS has her limbs scattered across the shores of her beaches and MINDANAO is hanging upside down from the ankles. The sisters tortured by the very people they protect and cuddled for centuries.

THE KILLING OF THE UNIVERSE

The clock ticks with time and the hourglass almost exhausted of sand. With the changing of the seasons, is the changing of people, of lifestyles, of trends, of nature and of climate. The last two, nature and climate are the most we would not want changed in so fast a pace. Studies and actual observations are alarming to the extent of changes happening now, reasons ranging from domestic, commercial and agricultural expansions to pollutions and other natural factors. Changes are inevitable and a welcome phase in everything in this world, but when the changes are from mostly bad to worse and worst, then it is nothing to be happy about.

THE CITY OF HOPE (The City That Hopes)

The city begun to tire. Then it started smelling tired. Lately it simply smelled. The stink permeating the once beautiful place I proudly called home. I spent all my life in this city. Aside from the occasional travels away from home when my job calls for it, I was stuck here…willingly. I was born here. For all I cared about I am one of the luckiest people to have had the opportunity to be rooted in this tiny but beautiful and tranquil place. Until about lately.

BURNHAM LAKE FIVE YEARS BACK. The old Eucaluptus trees drip their willowy fingers into the murky waters of the lake. Reminiscent of the romance of the place, even the boats now seem to tire of their sorroundings.

In Search of Lost Cultures

The search for lost cultures in the North has become a passion for me, becoming an obsession of sorts, like a tingling itch that needed a good scratching. From the unexperienced, unexposed city girl evolved the unrelenting adventurer. I go trekking miles into the wild, open spaces, climbing rocks and poking crevices to get to something I thought would lead to something more interesting.

Kapangan, Benguet. Even in the remotest areas in Kapangan, once too often are seen sprouting residential structures costing a bit or a lot more than a modest home, say two-storeys (or higher) that ordinary manual laborers or employees cannot afford. Ask the locals and the answer they say lie in the peppers. Like spicing the soil with it and up the structure grows.

HEART BAGUIO/BURNHAM advocates sit it out and do weekly bonfire vigils at the Pine Trees of The World Park (back of Athletic Bowl) for more than a month now. Journalists and musicians and concerned groups and individuals gather to protest the killing of the trees and the park as well as preserve the use of the same for the people of Baguio City.
