Ifugao mourns death of Mayoyao's 1st Mayor |
|
contributed by Jeremy M. Gawongna
Kiangan, Ifugao - Headed by Ifugao Congressman Solomon R. Chungalao, locals from Mayoyao came here last April 22, 2008 to have a glance at Mr. Santiago Balajo, their town's first Mayor who died at the age of 98. Kiangan Mayor Jonathan Cuyahon welcomed and assisted the said delegation who arrived in the morning of that day.
Balajo's autobiography read by Mayoyao Mayor Romeo Chulana and Mayoyao's former history teacher Robert Bongayon enlightened some Ifugaos asking how a Kiangan folk became Mayoyao's first Mayor. Indeed, Kiangan's former Mayor Jose M. Guinid disclosed that Balajo, being a historical figure in Ifugao, is more popular in Mayoyao than in Kiangan.
